What is the relation between Islam and Maryam the “Virgin Mary”?

Islam is the religion that concerned most about the “virgin Mary”. That was clearly shown in Qur’an and the biography of Prophet Muhammad “Sunnah”. To begin with the Holy Qur’an, it’s found that the word Maryam was mentioned 32 times more than in the Bible itself. Moreover, Allah specialized Sura called Maryam. It also gave her “Mary” high respect and honor when Allah said in Sura Aal-Imraan (42) “And [mention] when the angels said, “O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.”

Quran told a story about Mary from her birthday, her childhood, her son Jesus birth, and it gave evidences to prove her innocence of adultery.

In addition, the prophet Muhammad also talked about Maryam; The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The best of its women is Maryam, the daughter of Imran, and the best of its women is Khadija”

What did Qur’an talk about Maryam?

First of all, Qur’an talked about Maryam’s family before her birthday. The story came at the beginning of the miserable life of the people of Israel as they had corrupted their religion and distorted their faith, and the one of them did not have trust on the other, and in the midst of this corruption was living Imran and his wife Hannah Bint Fakud, worshiping God alone, and did not have any child who share them their life. The wife asked Allah to give her a boy to vow him to serve Jerusalem. Allah said in Qur’an in Sura Al-Imraan(35) [Mention, O Muhammad], when the wife of ‘Imran said, “My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.”  (36) But when she delivered her, she said, “My Lord, I have delivered a female.” And Allah was most knowing of what she delivered, “And the male is not like the female. And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allah].”
